Rico is a lovely boy looking for a new home, only due to a change in circumstances. Originally a Spanish rescue, Rico has been in his current home since he was a pup. Rico is looking for a home where he has company for most of the day and where he can get lots exercise.

Rico is a Spanish hunting dog which means he has a very high hunting drive and his recall is bad so he cannot be let off the lead on walks. For this reason, it would be ideal if his new home has a secure garden for Rico to run and play around freely.

Rico is very friendly towards visitors and is not overbearing, he will settle after 5 minutes. Rico’s new home should be willing to continue with his training as there are still some minor things to be worked on. He can be left for a few hours but is used to having someone around most of the day.

Out on walks, Rico likes meeting new dogs but will bark until he gets to sniff and say hello. After doing that, he is happy to walk on. He also likes to play with other dogs when in a secure field. However, Rico has been attacked a couple of times by other dogs so care should still be taken with him when out and about. Rico loves riding in cars and enjoys going for long walks. Rico can escape from regular collars so a secure harness is required for walks.

Rico can suffer from dry skin but does not currently take any medication. However, this condition would be covered under our Food and Vet Fund if Rico ever needed treatment.* Rico is happy to be washed and brushed and has behaved well at the groomers.

Rico loves to play with toys, he has a favourite ball. He loves to play with someone and generally loves all kinds of attention. Rico likes to cuddle up and be patted too. Playing, getting attention and running around in a safe space are his three favourite things.

If you think Rico can enjoy his favourite things in your loving home then please apply.

*FOOD AND VETERINARY TREATMENT FUND: This fund allows DAS to cover costs of pre-existing conditions once a dog has been re-homed. This means we will cover costs for vet treatment if the dog has a condition before it comes to stay with you. In this case we will covers costs relating to Rico’s dry skin condition within reason.
