When Rik appeared on the Dog Aid Scotland website, his future family weren’t sure they were ready for another dog.
After losing their beloved Collie, they had been wondering whether they should welcome another dog into their lives at all…. Then they met Rik.
At 11 years old, Rik was looking for a new home. He also had a medical condition requiring ongoing medication. For many older dogs, challenges like these can make finding a new home harder.
But Rik’s family saw something special in him.
A week after meeting him, Rik arrived for a two-week trial.
“As soon as he walked in the door, wagging his tail and so friendly, we instantly knew he was here to stay.”
Today, Rik is twelve and a half years old and thriving with the family who love him.
His family describe him as:
“A complete joy.”

Why Dog Aid Scotland?
For almost 70 years, Dog Aid Scotland has been helping dogs and their owners through difficult times.
Unlike many rehoming organisations, we don’t use kennels. Instead, dogs stay in their current homes until a suitable new home is found.
We also provide support through initiatives such as our Old Dog Scheme, helping ensure older dogs and those with ongoing health conditions have the same chance of finding a loving home as any other dog.
